Recycled plastic

Madras Carry bags are made from recycled plastic.
India lacks a comprehensive recycling system, and in many places, the state-run waste collection service is completely overwhelmed. As a result, plastic often ends up in the environment or in waterways, from where it is carried to the sea. However, plastic, especially the coloruless polyethylene used to make drinking bottles, can be recycled effectively. These bottles are collected by rag pickers and then processed: the polyethylene is cleaned, shredded, and melted into wire with the addition of dye. Our producers then weave these wires into Madras Carry bags and baskets. Approximately 50 drinking bottles make one bag.
Of course, plastic recycling can only contribute a small part to reducing the vast quantities that are consumed and discarded daily due to careless handling. Changing awareness about plastic use is primarily achieved through education. Therefore, we collaborate with organizations like "Namma Beach - Namma Chennai," which teaches schools about the responsible use of resources, and we regularly participate in beach cleanups.
Incidentally, our products have been tested for their safety by TÜV Rheinland in several random sample tests.
